Senior Vice President, Post Production & Innovation (Disney Branded Television)
Disney Branded Television is dedicated to Kids and Family. The content is exhibited on Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney+. The Post-Production team for DBT oversees post-production for all TV content produced as originals or from 3rd parties. Reporting to the EVP Production, the SVP of Post Production will lead the post production team. The team will support Animation, Scripted Live Action, Unscripted, Shortform and Acquisitions. The overall objective of the team led by the SVP Post Production is to evaluate the Script, Budget and Schedule of episodes, and ensure delivery within those timelines, budgetary parameters, creative excellence and technical innovation.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee Post-Production department for Disney Branded Television, which produces or supervises about 25 live action and 35 animated projects per year for Disney Channel, Disney Jr, Disney XD, Disney+. There is also a large volume of Shortform Multi-platform interstitials to support. In addition, there is a significant workflow of acquisitions.
• Provide direction and oversight to team members who determine post production requirements for each project in terms of animation, visual effects, graphics, sound, picture, staffing and overall workflow. Collaborate with partners to manage platform specific deliverables and ancillary needs.
• Champion the constant evolution of our tools and processes across all aspects of the development and production pipelines. Be on the leading edge of technology developments, like Artificial Intelligence, and take a leadership role in identifying and integrating solutions to improve everything from: speed-to-market, to creative collaboration, to content quality, to process efficiency, to cost.
• Partner with DBT Technology and post-production management to:
• Evaluate our current post-workflow and pipeline to align with best practices.
• Create Synergies across Post Production for DBT.
• Identify opportunities to create and leverage best-in-class solutions in the: cloud, A.I., and remote location/low-bandwidth internet solution space.
• Act as point of escalation for team members when there are potential financial, creative, technical or deadline problems for their projects.
• Build and maintain relationships with producers, directors and production companies to ensure a steady flow of communication and timely turnaround of deliverables.
• Represent DBT and the Post-Production function in internal meetings and task-forces across DGE. In addition, creating synergies with DBT's internal Television Animation post team.
• Collaborate with other WDT departments such as Production, Creative, Creative Services, Music, Standards & Practices, Finance, Legal, Business Affairs, and Labor Relations.
• Develop a diverse staff internally and externally inline with our DEI requirements. Grow the team to keep staff members challenged and moving the business forward.
• Working with showrunners, directors and the studio to hire key personnel. Includes maintaining relationships with both talent/crew and appropriate agents/managers. Responsible for developing and growing a pipeline of talent and vendors for editorial, visual effects, finishing, and post producers.
• Manage schedule contingencies and support down stream processes like localization, dubbing, and subtitling. Address S+P notes.
• Remaining current as it applies to industry technology (e.g. ACES, cameras, software). Attending and reporting on all appropriate conferences, demos, and seminars (NAB, Siggraph, etc.). Exchanging information with Disney resources like Emerging Technologies to discuss how other Disney companies are navigating similar challenges. Constantly identifying places post production can improve and implementing ideas that enhance the company.
• Supervising the inventorying and organizing of all post-production assets (AVIDs, Codex vaults, camera mags, software, etc.). Includes identifying purchase vs. rental scenarios, distribution and subsequent re-collection of resources from individual projects, and managing resources as they approach end of life.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 15 years of Post-Production or Production Executive leadership experience.
• Experience working as a post producer on high-end shows and films and/or experience working as an executive over seeing multiple projects from a studio perspective.
• Live action and CG Animation experience required.
• Experience in episodic television animation, familiarity with animation software programs like Toon Boom's Harmony and Storyboard Pro.
• Experience with Unreal Engine and Unity. (preferred)
• A proven leader in setting direction and achieving objectives in relation to management of Post Production process.
• Experience managing teams of 15+ direct reports including Executives with a passion for people and active staff development and while managing change.
• Extensive experience with Animation and Visual Effects vendor management required.
• Ability to resolve conflict and bring teams to consensus to achieve shared goals.
• A Team Player willing to dive into the weeds.
• Understanding of new media/social/digital content-YouTube, TikTok, IG, etc.
• Strong communication and organization skills.
• Must be Curious and a Big Thinker with a realistic approach and passion for innovation.
• Must live within a commutable distance to Burbank, CA or be willing to relocate self.
Required Education:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $ $270,500 to $ $371,900 per year. The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
