Senior Media Streaming Engineer

Job Description

The Media Delivery team at Disney Streaming is responsible for the entire audio and video encoding supply chain from content acquisition to delivery, consisting of agile and responsive teams of technicians that perform the daily processes and procedures of our live and on-demand video streaming products. The department's responsibilities provide round the clock support for these products, ensuring proper functionality across all platforms and front-end playback scenarios. The Media Delivery Live team provides technical and engineering support for our partner products, including workflow design and implementation, incident management and system health monitoring and live and VOD streaming media orchestration, and cross-team communications.

As Senior Media Streaming Engineer, you will work as an individual contributor in a small and dynamic team of engineers that is responsible for the health and functionality of Disney Streaming's live encoder and HLS packaging applications. Department leads will look to you to provide ideas on procedure and support tool optimizations. This position requires a person with strong communication and analytic skills. You must also be comfortable working independently with minimal guidance.

This role requires you to work primarily with Disney Streaming employees based in the United States (Eastern & Pacific Time Zones).

Responsibilities:
• Deployment and upgrading of live encoding platforms
• Troubleshooting encoding and segmentation issues
• Maintenance and support of live encoder platforms
• Monitoring of live event workflows
• Documentation of workflows and standard operating procedures

Skills & Experience Required:
• Experience troubleshooting with Linux operating systems (CentOS) on the application, services and OS level
• Ability to work in both a macOS and Windows environment
• comfortable modifying xml / json
• knowledge of video codecs and compression, specifically H.264/AVC and H.265/HEVC
• You have a strong understanding of video fundamentals
• Experience with enterprise deployment / configuration management such as Ansible / AWX
• Experience with operating systems and application installation of Linux systems
• Experience updating and configuring of system BIOS
• Basic understanding of IP networks
• Knowledge of video delivery over content distribution networks
• Linux BASH scripting experience
• Experience working with enterprise coding platforms
• A good understanding of ABR streaming, specifically HLS
• Ability to work independently with a strong ability to multitask
• Ability to quickly identify and resolve issues in a dynamic production environment
• BA/BS in Computer Science / Electrical Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
