Summary:
The Art Director at ABC News serves as the creative liaison between the graphics department artists and the producers and editorial staff. This role involves collaborating to visualize editorial ideas and improving upon initial concepts.
The successful Art Director will also be integral in conceiving, executing, and producing original motion graphic design and content for productions and live-news shows.
Role Overview:
The candidate must be highly creative, innovative, extremely motivated, organized and able to handle creative pressures under extreme deadlines.
They need to be an ingenious visual problem solver.
The Art Director must be able to manage quick turnaround of graphics assets and sometimes rapid changes.
The ideal candidate is someone who can synthesize creative asks and requirements and make decisions about production capabilities and challenges.
They also need to be able to create graphics as well as manage artists and projects with great competence and skill.
Must be flexible about hours and shifts that may include nights, holidays, and weekends as part of a team dedicated to 24/7 news coverage.
Responsibilities:
• Visual problem solving and managing the quick turnaround of graphics assets.
• Collaborating effectively within a team and working independently as needed.
• Work with Producers, senior team, and production team, to collaborate, conceive, and execute motion and other graphics on productions, often with very tight deadlines.
• Conceive, design, and execute motion and other graphics for creative content for on-air and streaming platforms, and show-related marketing elements & content.
• Stay in constant communication with team about fluid, ever-changing schedule, deadlines, and priorities.
Qualifications & Skills:
• 5+ years of experience overseeing motion graphics production in a multi-media environment.
• BFA in Graphic Design or Animation.
• High level proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and preferably either C4D or Maya.
• Live graphics production experience and knowledge of graphics workflows for Vizrt, Xpression, and the Adobe Suite.
• Strong editorial background/experience.
• Demonstrated information design experience.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Superior typography and design sensibilities.
Preferred:
• 10+ years total experience in Graphic Design in streaming or Broadcast industries.
The hiring range for this position in New York is $114,500 to $157,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
