The Direct to Consumer (DTC) group is an Engineering company within the Discovery brand. DTC's engineering teams build applications for Web, Mobile, Connected TVs and Consoles/STBs covering features like Search, Playback, ML driven Recommendation, Subscriptions, Payments etc. We are building a Global Video Streaming Platform to support a broad collection of Discovery's brands (Discovery, TLC, Motor Trend, Golf TV, Food Network, Eurosport, and many more) including the recently launched Discovery+. These applications are powered by a fleet of cloud-native microservices for Content Ingestion, Metadata processing, Video encoding & Ad Tech platform on AWS containers & serverless-compute.
Meet Our Team:
The STB (Set Top Box) team is part of the GPI (Global Partner Integration) team responsible for the roll out of the D+ app on affiliate partner set top boxes across the globe. We work with a number of 3 rd party agencies across the globe that help us integrate the core D+ code base onto affiliate partner STB's.
Responsibilities
Roles & Responsibilities:
• You play a leadership role in your area. You are known for your subject matter expertise in one or more software engineering specializations
• You are a key influencer in your team's strategy and contribute significantly to team planning.
• You have built multiple high-performance, stable, scalable systems that have been successfully shipped to customers in production.
• You show good judgement making trade-offs between immediate and long-term business needs.
• You are able to describe and defend your design and code decisions to other engineers, embrace constructive feedback, and adapt your approach to align with team and company standards and objectives.
• You offer enhancements to best practices, document, design, and architecture improvements, and as feedback through code reviews to other engineers without continuous prompting or recurring encouragement. Other engineers appreciate your feedback.
• You can troubleshoot a production issue by reviewing source code, logs, operational metrics, stack trace etc. to pinpoint a specific problem and then resolve it.
What to Bring:
• 13 - 17yrs of relevant experience,High proficiency and technical leadership with technologies on our stack including JS, Android, RDK, Linux and similar STB operating systems.
• You have a proven track record of STB application development and are able to design applications for resource constraint devices.
• You are experienced and capable of playing a leading role to design and develop major functional changes to existing software systems, or new ones, involving yourself and other engineers
• You make good decisions when to build new and when to extend existing.
• You provide guidance on design, coding, and operational best practices, and have a track record of applying these best practices to software that you have worked on
• You make high impact decisions driving how and what software gets built. Your decisions are often right, and you are persuasive in delivering your suggestions and ideas to your team.
• You mentor junior Engineers, overseeing their designs, code quality, and integration into a team. Your success is judged as much on your own productivity as on the positive impact you have on engineers around you.
