Overview
Discovery, Inc. (the Company) is searching for a Revenue Accounting Manager to join our Americas Revenue Accounting team in Knoxville, TN.
The Manager – US Ad Sales Accounting will be part of the team responsible for accounting for the United States ad sales revenue, including both digital and linear platforms. This individual will be expected to perform and review the accounting within their scope of responsibility, as well as manage a small team of revenue accountants. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in US GAAP revenue accounting principles and able to work within tight deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail and accuracy.
Responsibilities
• Manage the accounting for Digital & Linear Ad Sales and ensure compliance with US GAAP and the Company's revenue recognition policies
• Prepare and/or review journal entries and account reconciliations in accordance with Company policy while meeting all close deadlines
• Responsible for Barter approval tracking and Barter Revenue and Expense reconciliation and tracking
• Prepare and/or review balance sheet, including intercompany, account reconciliations to include investigating and resolving outdated balances and discrepancies
• Perform and/or review SOX controls and submissions for SEC reporting purposes
• Assist with any Internal and External audit requests
• Assist Senior Manager and Senior Director, as necessary, with revenue contract reviews and determine proper revenue recognition in accordance with US GAAP accounting standards and company policy, as well as coordinate any system setups in order to properly recognize and report such revenue
• Work with Senior Manager and Senior Director to ensure clean and timely quarter & year end audits as well as successful internal control audits
• Gain an understanding of existing processes and procedures with an eye on continuous improvement in terms of closing timelines and schedules
• Performing other duties and responsibilities as needed
Requirements
• BS/BA in related discipline from an accredited university
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting role and a strong understanding of US GAAP and SOX requirements
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role
• CPA required
It's a plus if you have:
• Big 4 or large national public accounting background
• Proven accounting experience with US GAAP revenue recognition, especially in the media & entertainment industry
• Experience with SAP and Blackline strongly preferred
• Capacity to effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Embraces change driven by evolving business initiatives and maintains positivity when time-sensitive milestones shift
• Experience implementing best practices that require significant innovation for improving processes by applying advanced understanding of complex functional/technical and business issues and challenges
• Advanced knowledge with MS Office suite
• Applies fundamental functional/technical and business knowledge typically gained through formal education to deliver assigned work
• Results oriented, strong attention to detail and accuracy a must. Seeks guidance on new or unfamiliar tasks
• Keeps others informed of workload, timeline, and resources needed to accomplish tasks
• Ability to work independently as well as working collaboratively with team members across the organization and prioritize multiple deliverables with competing deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to foster positive working relationships across the organization
