Location: Vancouver, BC or Toronto, ON - Hybrid
*Pay Range: $80,000 - $120,000 CAD annually
POSITION SUMMARY:
A VFX Pipeline TD will design, write, and maintain tools which streamline the studio production process and enable efficient workflows. This role requires an understanding of both technical and artistic aspects of the VFX process, but most importantly programming and strong problem-solving skills.
MAIN DUTIES:
As a Pipeline TD, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing user-friendly tools, providing technical support to team members and artists, and overall pipeline optimization. You will be working with various departments, creating clear documentation for training, and ensuring to stay up to date with latest trends and advancements in the industry. You will be responsible for the following:
• Tool Development and Maintenance: Design, develop, and maintain custom in-house tools and scripts to automate tasks, streamline workflows, and improve overall pipeline efficiency. Tools may be standalone or integrated within various production software environments.
• User-Friendly Tool Creation: Build intuitive and accessible tools for artists, ensuring they are user-friendly and seamlessly integrated into the pipeline environment.
• Pipeline Optimization: Identify and troubleshoot bottlenecks within the VFX pipeline, implementing solutions to enhance performance, reduce turnaround times, and ensure smooth production workflows.
• Artist and Team Support: Provide ongoing technical support to artists and team members, assisting with the usage of pipeline tools, workflows, and troubleshooting any related issues.
• Research and Development: Stay current with the latest advancements in VFX technologies, techniques, and industry trends. Continuously explore new tools and methods to improve pipeline efficiency and quality, and contribute to the evolution of in-house systems.
• Cross-Department Collaboration: Work with various departments to understand needs and ensure pipeline optimization across production stages.
• Documentation and Training: Create clear documentation and provide training to ensure proper usage of pipeline tools and workflows.
• Version Control and Asset Management: Assist in maintaining version control and support asset management to ensure smooth data flow.
• Quality Assurance: Test and ensure new tools and processes meet quality standards before implementation.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Resolve technical issues and offer solutions to improve workflow efficiency.
WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills in Python and will bring experience with industry-standard VFX DCCs such as Nuke, Houdini, Maya. They will be experienced with render farm managers like Deadline, OpenQue, Cube, etc., and have strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Additional desired skills include:
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Experience with version control systems (Git, Perforce).
• Experience with machine learning and AI techniques.
• Experience with bash scripting.
