Location: Santa Monica, CA
*Pay Range: $22.00 - $28.00 USD hourly

The Color Assistant will be responsible for filling a variety of supporting roles to the colorist and providing support to produce color grading operations from ingest to delivery. Primarily they will learn new processes and maintain proficiency with evolving technical applications and trends with the company workflow. In this position they actively provide support and solutions for the colorist team.

MAIN DUTIES:
The Color Assistant will be responsible for the preparation of projects/sessions, execution of job, final delivery, final billing, communications, and engineering. Their duties include:
• Preparations for Projects/Sessions: Set up project folder structure on the SAN, ensure all prep is downloaded and up to date, all elements are properly labeled, all lists and references are properly formatted, and all required elements are present. Create restore master, missing, and update EDL(s) and submit to data department, Parse-Conform VAMs for color with provided EDL from online, Color-trace project. Ensure all required color elements are accounted for such as drop-ins, mattes, and conform references, and ensure that all project settings are set to the defined department standard. Flag any shots that do not line up to the reference or that are not delivered in the correct color space.
• Execution of Job: Set up color suites 15 minutes prior to session start per session requirements, check color project for issues and playback performance prior to session start and client arrival, flag any outstanding footage needed to complete the project, and communicate to artist all project details necessary for the artist to execute the project, ensuring artists added their session time to the work order. Confirm the details of the laydown requirements, etc. with the project producer, and monitor the progress of a session. Communicate any machine downtime to the producer, production coordinator and engineering, prep and add any fx drop-in shots for the session, and ensure hero stills are updated and grabbed for all timelines.
• Final Delivery: Communicate with the project producer and production coordinator on any additional request made by the clients in the bay, render/record project per project specs, label elements as requested per project specs, label finished elements clearly to indicate episode, cut number/letter, date, etc., quality checking all rendered material for any missing material or corruption, flag any cut-offs in jeopardy of being missed, and contact vault once elements are ready for shipping.
• Final Billing: Ensure all work orders are legibly filled out with set-up, color, and render/laydown time.
• Communications: Touch base with production coordinator before leaving shift for handoff notes, etc., update producers and coordinators all relevant information for all aspects of the project; Prep and Post. Generate Night Report with the status of the current day sessions and the following days' sessions.
• Engineering: Report all system repair needs via the EMR system, keep production up to date on the status of any situation that directly affects the session and or is deliveries.
• New Technology Support: Help support new processes and maintain proficiency with evolving technical applications and trends with the company workflow.
• Quality Control: Maintain outstanding levels of oversight of deliverables manufactured within the feature finishing process.
• Customer Service: Drive client supervised sessions; screenings, visual effects reviews and color-correction sessions as directed by colorist and/or production management.
• Teamwork: Work as part of a collaborative team. Document workflows and help train incoming new hires.

WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the media/post-production industry, prior hands-on operator experience, as well as prior working knowledge in Davinci Resolve. They will be detail-oriented and organized, with a strong ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve on the fly, and bring strong interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate, assertively and diplomatically with a diverse population. Additional desired skills include:
• Flexibility with shift hours (overtime, overnights, weekends as needed)
• Adaptable to constantly evolving scenarios and being able to pivot as priorities change.
• Calm and personable under pressure, whilst working to tight deadlines.
• Proven ability to work as part of a team in a very fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Must have a solid knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
• Knowledge of long-form file-based and HDR workflows and delivery requirements is a plus.
• Flame and Baselight experience is a plus.
