News doesn't stop for weekends, and neither do we! CNN Digital is redefining what it means to work weekends in a newsroom, leading the industry in covering the world's most significant news events and providing audiences with smart, engaging and unique counter-programming.
Our weekend staff is superlative, continuously breaking stories, writing distinctive features and setting audience and engagement records. We're light, agile and obsessed with producing strong, accurate and timely journalism.

We cover everything – from the pandemic and the racial justice movement to Tom Brady's seventh Super Bowl victory, Drake's ''Certified Lover Boy'' and so much more.

The Daily
• This person writes stories that are published and shared across CNN's mobile and desktop sites, apps, social accounts and other platforms.
• This writer will often help shape story ideas and angles around complex topics and will pitch and execute stories on their own. When a big story breaks, writers will take the lead in starting and updating the main story for all platforms, keeping us sharp and fast on breaking news.
• This writer must be skilled at finding ways to cover the news of the day in distinctive ways that resonate with audiences.
• CNN's writers are skillful and swift. They turn in clean, crisp and conversational copy on the first draft.
• This person knows how to write briefly and breezily when needed but can also handle high-concept stories off the news.
• S/he knows how to write in formats that go beyond the traditional article - including visual stories; explanatory work that helps audiences understand the news; and real-time breaking news posts.
• Though this writer will be part of CNN Digital's National desk, this is a general assignment role; coverage will include national and international news, health, climate, sports, entertainment and more.
• This writer should be just as excited to tackle buzzy stories as they are breaking news and features. No story is too big or too small.
• All writers need to have a creative and competitive drive. S/he also follows best practices for SEO and tagging.
• In any given day, this person may be asked to work with CNN correspondents in the field; draft alerts; or write off CNN's air.

The Essentials
• At least 3 or more years of digital storytelling experience.
• Willingness to work weekends: This is a full-time weekend role, with a schedule that includes both Saturday and Sunday. Hours may include early mornings or late evenings.
• College degree or equivalent.
• Take daily news assignments and some longer-term stories.
• Pitch ideas that support key storylines, themes or initiatives, or that otherwise dazzle. Contribute to special features and stories as assigned.
• Collaborate with teams across CNN's newsroom, including newsgathering, social, video and programming. Curate elements within stories - including CNN videos, photo galleries and graphics, along with external work from affiliates and competitors that should be attributed.
• Care deeply about accuracy, urgency and integrity and in maintaining and growing the trust CNN has with audiences worldwide.
