Sr Section Editor - CNN Underscored (Product Testing)

Senior Section Editor, CNN Underscored

The Senior Section Editor will work directly with the Deputy Editors to help manage all editorial processes. Main duties will include top editing across verticals and helping hold the team to day-to-day deadlines. The Senior Section Editor will also play a role helping to maintain quality control in our product testing process as we continue to expand CNN Underscored's hand-tested roundups.

In addition, the Senior Section Editor will have a hand in keeping track of evergreen articles in need of timely updates, working with editorial partners, and assign, edit, research and write sales articles, product reviews and consumer guides.

The Daily
• Top edit submitted copy and ensure adherence to our editorial standards
• Work with the Deputy Editor, Testing to maintain editorial calendars, keeping them up-to-date and holding the team to deadlines
• Manage all updates to evergreen copy, ensuring top-performing articles reflect seasonality and include the latest products
• Work with staff editors and freelancers to refine and implement rigorous testing protocols for all product reviews
• Coordinate with external editorial partners to streamline product procurement and article production
• Communicate with our SEO team to ensure stories comply with their guidance
• Pitch story ideas and contribute to regular brainstorms
• Assign, edit, research and write sales articles, product reviews and consumer guides

• Strong sense of latest digital commerce trends
• Receives work in the form of short-term assignments that often require the application of independent judgment
• Work is subject to regular supervisory review at regular intervals
• Operates within the context of defined procedures

The Essentials
• College degree in journalism or a related field preferred
• 8+ years of editorial experience at a major publisher, ideally in a commerce capacity; 4+ years of which were spent top editing freelance copy
• Passion for employing shopping strategies and finding the best deals
• Flawless grammar & spelling
• Strong creative and writing skills
• Must be detail-oriented, organized and have strong communication skills
