Your New Role…
The Senior Package Producer for The Lead with Jake Tapper will be responsible for pitching, researching, booking, interviewing, writing and producing all taped piece for the anchor and fill-in anchor, as well as produce correspondent packages when needed. This person will be expected to find, develop and produce taped packages ranging from in-depth complex investigations to political packages and even pop culture pieces, often handling multiple stories simultaneously.
Your Role Accountabilities…
The Senior Package Producer will work closely with senior management, the anchor, producers and bookers to craft the content of the program, and may also supervise teams, assign work, and provide professional guidance, and may be responsible for people management. Additional responsibilities include:
• Coordinating the entire production of field pieces – including travel, booking production crews, and obtaining interviews and B-roll.
• Writing compelling and informative package scripts capturing the anchor's voice and the tone of the show.
• Handling crash edits, fast turn-around and other high-pressure scenarios while maintaining clear and strong editorial judgement.
• Contributing to the show's long-term editorial planning.
• Assisting in the development of junior staff.
Qualifications & Experience…
The Senior Package Producer must have a passion for news, experience in enterprise writing and reporting, strong editorial judgement and extensive time working with correspondents, anchors and editors in package producing. They must be eager, cooperative, energetic and team oriented.
• 7+ years producing experience in national or major media markets required, at least 3 years of which package producing and field producing.
• Outstanding storytelling, interviewing and editing skills.
• Experience with television graphics, editing, and digital news gathering preferred.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented and able to meet tight deadlines.
• A bachelor's degree in journalism or related field of study is preferred, or equivalent experience
• Must be able to work an extended schedule when the news cycle demands and be willing to travel if needed.
