Media Specialist (Temporary)

Your New Role…

This Media Specialist role is part of CNN's Image+Sound Production Services unit. This team provides 24/7 production and editorial expertise to support CNN's storytelling. This role acts as point of contact for CNN's incoming content. With the non-stop news cycle, a Media Specialist focuses on technical responsibilities to ensure that all requests are met while keeping encoder or server space at an optimal level.

Your Role Accountabilities…
• To be an effective Media Specialist one is expected to collaborate and communicate professionally, check files for quality audio and video, and know when to escalate issues.
• Transcoding media into various formats to meet technical specifications for edit.
• Diagnosing web ingest issues quickly to determine if a file can be transcoded through manual means.
• Preparing post-production edit sessions, assisting delivery of finished content, and maintaining production server integrity.
• Managing the recording space of the various cities while proactively recording content requested by newsgathering and show teams.
• Completing metadata records accurately for each asset for improved user search across CNN Worldwide.

Qualifications & Experience…
• Two (2) years of editorial experience in news or video production and a solid news awareness required.
• A strong curiosity for current and historic events.
• Knowledge of how newscasts are put together and what is required to get video on the air or online.
• Familiarity of how content management systems work.
• Effective written and oral communication skills this includes the ability to analyze and communicate editorial details as it specifically applies to video.
• Ability to successfully work in a fast-paced environment, deliver excellent work under deadline pressure and remain focused for long periods of time.
• Ability to use and communicate effectively across various applications like Slack, Zoom and Microsoft Teams. As well as have a strong understanding of Microsoft Office suite.
• Proven organizational skills.
• A motivation to grow and adapt to a rapidly changing business.
• Bachelor's degree (typically in liberal arts such as journalism, English, political science) or demonstrated on the job experience.
• Language skills are also highly valued.
• Agility in work environment. The I+S Media Specialist may at times work in an open workspace environment, or remotely via a company provided laptop.
• This position is a 24x7x365, and is based in Atlanta.
