Your New CNN Role
CNN is seeking a Director of News to join its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong to take a leading role in helping to shape global weekend coverage – with a strong focus on US domestic news.
This is a role for an ambitious, capable and experienced video-first newsroom leader with outstanding news judgment, excellent communication skills, and a passion for breaking news and distinctive enterprise reporting that differentiates CNN.
Working as part of a diverse, highly collaborative newsroom, the successful candidate will serve as a vital link in CNN's follow-the-sun operation to ensure consistent, multiplatform coverage around the clock.
Your Role Accountabilities
• As Director of News, you will help set the global news agenda throughout the US overnight hours, working closely with senior leadership to respond in real-time to unexpected developments -- from civil unrest to natural disasters and everything in between – making decisive editorial decisions in a highly pressurized deadline driven environment.
• You'll bring proven high-level digital and video-first newsroom experience, a flair for big picture digital-first framings, and the ability to distill complex ideas, demonstrating a deep understanding of both US domestic and international news.
• You will be an expert communicator and adept at working in a highly collaborative multi-platform news environment, partnering closely with digital-first editorial news desk editors and reporters; regional bureaus; specialist content verticals; as well as show teams; commissioning editors; and digital video and social teams.
• You will have a broad portfolio and will be expected to move between reactive and proactive depending on the situation; you will be able to execute complex coverage plans and help coordinate field team deployments, communicating across teams and time zones on multi-region news, scoops and real time story pursuits.
• Though the role is located in Asia-Pacific, you will be working as part of a global, 24/7 cross-platform team, providing a key editorial link between CNN's US and Europe operations.

Qualifications & Experience
• A minimum of 10 years of newsroom leadership experience, with a strong editorial vision and deep working knowledge and experience covering US news.
• A willingness to work weekends.
• A proven track record of leading teams during major breaking news; superior news judgement; calmness under pressure; and the ability to deliver in a deadline driven environment.
• Exceptional planning and organizational skills with a demonstrable track record of executing detailed coverage plans and delivering on day two reporting targets.
• Expert communicator; solutions-minded with the ability to solve problems creatively.
• College degree or equivalent industry experience.
• Perfect grasp of written and spoken English.
• Enthusiasm, flexibility and a desire to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
