Job Description

CNN is looking for a Coordinating Producer, Newsource for our Washington DC. Bureau.

Your New Role...
• The Coordinating Producer is charged with developing, producing and managing daily editorial and custom content in support of Newsource Live, Newsource Distribution, and Newsource's Digital platforms.
• This position requires proven editorial, writing and logistics abilities to meet the primary obligation of producing and delivering promised content and live services to more than 1,000 CNN affiliates and clients worldwide.
• The Coordinating Producer will be proficient in identifying strong sound, graphics, and video for daily news packages, as well as feature stories and special reports, and will frequently pitch strong story ideas.
• The Coordinating Producer will spearhead our 2024 election coverage and have a strong understanding of covering local, congressional, and national elections, and will be expected to support live shot opportunities both in the early and late-night hours.
• This role works directly with other editorial and technical members in the Newsource Production Unit, Newsource Live Desk, and our partners with the CNN National Desk and CNN DC editorial leads to ensure that Newsource affiliates are receiving the highest quality product possible.

Your Role Accountabilities...

Writing/Editorial and Content Production
• Writes and produces franchise packages and/or day-of packages. Ensures stories meet all Legal and Standards guidelines of CNN. Handles all necessary approvals to clear video and text contained within pieces.
• Guides packages through all proper vetting required for CNN produced packages. Collaborates with Newsource technical director, affiliate control room and field crews to coordinate live product.
• Responds quickly and accurately to breaking news stories to support the overall Newsource service.

Live Coordinating/Field Production
• Partners with reporters to write and produce packages for use in live reports. Travels to cover breaking news as well as planned political events, with a focus on the 2024 primary and general election calendar, CNN town halls, debates, and other special events.
• Collaborates with Newsource technical director, affiliate control room and field crews to coordinate live product.
• Troubleshoot issues affiliates are experiencing with live product.
Operations
• The Coordinating Producer leverages internal production tools in order to secure and maximize adequate support for production initiatives, including onsite DC clients.
• Securing production resources on behalf of the customer is paramount, as is having a command of available Newsource production resources as well as utilizing available CNN tools such as SHOWMGR.
• A command of field production resources and techniques is vital to the operational success of Newsource newsgathering.

Qualifications & Experience...
• Newsroom experience in field production, package production, control room, newscast production, or similar - 5 years
• Impeccable news judgment and knowledge
• Social media expertise
• Excellent script writing skills
• Digital production knowledge
• Excellent customer service skills
• Leadership experience
• Highly organized, able to multi-task
• Affiliate newsroom experience
• Flexibility
• Degree in Journalist or equivalent work experience preferred
