Climate & Weather Editor, CNN Digital (project position)
CNN's Climate & Weather team is seeking a digital-first Climate & Weather Editor to help shape and elevate coverage of the most urgent crisis of our time. This editor will work closely with reporters, video producers, data visuals journalists and others to ensure our climate and weather storytelling is timely, accurate and engaging across all platforms.
The ideal candidate is a skilled editor with a strong foundation in climate journalism who can help reporters translate complex topics into accessible, compelling stories for a general audience. This person should have a strong nose for news and emerging trends in climate science, weather, solutions and culture, and be comfortable moving between
breaking news and enterprise. This editor thrives in a collaborative, cross-platform newsroom and values teamwork, diversity and innovation.
**This is a benefits-eligible 4 month project role**
Your Role Accountabilities…
• Assign, shape and edit a wide array of climate and weather news, analysis and features
• Collaborate with video and visuals teams to develop compelling storytelling across platforms
• Launch or support coverage when major climate or weather news breaks
• Oversee and help write live stories during breaking news moments
• Guide reporters toward insightful, engaging coverage that connects the dots for audiences
• Support and mentor reporters, helping them develop pitches and sharpen their reporting
• Ensure all copy is clean, accurate and in line with CNN standards
• Represent the team in editorial meetings and collaborate with other desks across the newsroom
Qualifications & Experience…
• At least 5 years of digital editorial experience, including experience editing climate, weather or environmental journalism
• A passion for climate storytelling and a strong grasp of climate science and policy
• Experience leading breaking news coverage and shaping longer enterprise pieces
• Proven ability to guide and elevate reporters' work across a range of story types
• Strong news judgment and headline-writing instincts
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills
• Collaborative and team-oriented mindset
• Experience working across digital platforms and understanding the needs of different audiences
• A college degree or equivalent

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $91,000.00 - $169,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
