Overview and Responsibilities:
CBS Newspath is seeking a supervising producer who leads by example and will drive news coverage in our DC office, leading staff in planning editorial and delivering content! This is a role for an adept multi-tasker well-versed in politics who enjoys working in a fast-paced newsroom and is solutions oriented. The ideal candidate is a great teammate, facilitating requests from CBS stations, affiliates, and clients as well as working hand in hand with the CBS News Washington bureau and all CBS News platforms to share resources and coordinate coverage. A successful candidate will be proactive about identifying news events, take ownership of determining and clearly communicating video usage and restrictions as well as make certain Newspath coverage is aligned with CBS News standards. The supervising producer will help manage teams, including assigning duties, credentialling and scheduling. The supervising producer is on call after hours, must be responsive to breaking news and is part of a weekend manager on-call rotation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Decide what Washington stories will be covered daily in conjunction with NY desk, taking into account the needs of local stations and foreign broadcast clients
• Assign daily story cuts and copyedits abstracts
• Edit own cuts and writes abstracts
• Keep producers and other staff informed on editorial information and video elements for correspondent pieces
• Work with management in NY to ensure Newspath is properly staffed for scheduled big news events such as presidential inaugurations, State of the Union
• Facilitate remote credentialling and DC passes
• Assist local affiliates with coverage when they travel to DC and arrange for coverage (sat talkbacks, interviews) of newsmakers a local station may request for its broadcasts
• Liaison between Newspath NY and the Washington bureau as well as between affiliate newsrooms and the Washington bureau. This means giving tips to the broadcasts that are generated at the affiliates and at times making sure our stations and Newspath NY have key DC editorial on developing stories
• Schedule DC desk team
• Participate in weekend manager on call rotation-one weekend day every 6 weeks
Basic Qualifications:
• 7+ years producing experience in professional newsroom
• Non-linear editing experience required. Proficiency with Avid preferred
• Must be an excellent writer with good oral communication skills. Including experience in quickly reviewing and revising scripts/rundowns
• Original scripting experience a must
• Must have solid news judgment and experience with breaking news, live shots and video transmission
• Ability to multi-task is essential
Additional Qualifications:
• Must be a great teammate with a positive mentality and be available to work various schedules
• Supervisory experience is preferable with good leadership skills and ability to motivate a team
• Thrives in high-pressure and time-critical situations
• Degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred
• Passion for news, journalism, and social media

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $110,400.00 - 138,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
