Reporter/Multi-Skilled Journalist
WBZ-TV/CBS News Boston has an immediate opening for a Freelance Reporter/Multi-Skilled Journalist (MSJ). The ideal candidate is a resourceful and self-sufficient storyteller who excels at shooting, writing, editing, and presenting news for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms. This position demands credibility, confidence, and dynamic live reporting. You'll chase breaking news, deliver impactful live shots, and publish clear copy under tight deadlines. The freelance, on-call schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must shoot and edit using lightweight ENG or prosumer cameras.
Required Skills / Experience:
• Report live and taped segments, both scripted and unscripted, clearly and accurately.
• Independently gather facts, video, and interviews; manage multiple live shots per shift.
• Write compelling broadcast scripts and engaging digital content.
• Edit video efficiently in Avid
• Post timely updates on WBZ.com, CBS News Boston streaming, and social media.
• Collaborate closely with assignment editors, producers, and photographers.
• Commit unwaveringly to accuracy, fairness, and high ethical standards.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years of on-air reporting/MSJ experience in a medium-to-large market.
• Proven field shooting and editing skills.
• Strong news judgment, deadline discipline, and ability to work independently.
• Valid driver's license.
• Availability for early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Willingness to join SAG-AFTRA as required.
Education:
• College degree or equivalent professional experience.
Compensation:
• Daily freelance rate commensurate with experience, governed by applicable collective bargaining agreements.
