Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Research, gather, and produce news content for newscasts, streaming, specials and all platforms for CBS Chicago. This role is collaborative and non-traditional. The primary responsibility will be to work with other journalists to produce news stories in all forms (packages, VOs, VO/SOTs, etc) utilizing all the tools of a multi-skilled journalist. Secondary, will be as an on-air reporter.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Produce enterprise content that is aligned with news strategies
- Work collaboratively with a team to build compelling content
- Write compelling, character-driven stories.
- Research, write, shoot and edit VOs, Vo/SOTs and Packages
- Participate in editorial meetings, supply meaningful enterprise content
- Ensure that all production deadlines are met
- Maintain an unequivocal dedication to accuracy, fairness and ethics
- Prepare copy for use on-line, social/digital media and on radio

SECONDARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Report live and on-tape – scripted and unscripted
- Ability to report daily news and breaking news accurately and creatively
STRENGTHS YOU'LL NEED:
- Results-Oriented and Innovative
- Proven ability to write and edit broadcast copy that is aligned with news strategies
- Ability to work within tight deadlines.
- Receive constructive feedback and adjust performance accordingly
- Experience with non-linear shooting and editing required
- Knowledge of use of social media required. The ability to execute station's social media strategy and efforts is necessary.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Five years' experience as a MMJ, preferably in a top 20 market
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or similar field.
- Familiarity with Chicago area, strongly preferred.
