Job Title: Assistant News Director

Description:

CBS Television Stations' Miami properties: WFOR-TV, WBFS-TV, CBSMiami.com and CBSN Miami, are seeking an aggressive, creative go-getter to be the next Assistant News Director! The ideal candidate must be a highly motivated, people-oriented leader who can help coordinate the day-to-day news operations across all platforms and show a track record of successfully motivating and directing a team of highly talented News Professionals. The Assistant News Director will be involved in hiring, creating schedules, budgeting, and administrative tasks, as well as motivating, and reviewing the performance of the news team. In addition, they will coordinate content planning between news, digital, promotion, production, design, newspaper partners, and other stations in the group.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
• Manage day-to-day editorial coverage including breaking news and major events across all CBS Miami platforms
• Oversee planning and execution of special projects coverage and other assigned projects.
• Champion breaking news and severe weather coverage.
• Source, recruit and retain top-notch journalists.
• Train and develop employees across all facets of the newsroom.
• Analyze workflows to ensure newsroom is operating efficiently.
• Help coordinate newsroom operations and schedules

Requirements/Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in broadcast news.
• Minimum 3 years of management experience. Reports directly to the News Director.
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Strong digital and streaming platforms experience
• Strong writing and editing skills for broadcast, social and digital platforms
• Knowledge of FCC rules and laws pertaining to news broadcasting in multi-media platforms and employment and labor regulations
• Bachelor's degree in journalism, related field, and/or leadership experience preferred

CBS Television Stations consists of 28 CBS-owned stations in 17 major US markets, as well as the stations' digital properties. The portfolio of stations includes 15 that are part of the CBS Television Network, eight affiliates of The CW Network, three independent stations and two MyNetworkTV affiliates.
