CBS Detroit is looking for a dynamic, innovative and experienced Chief Meteorologist to join our Next Weather Team. As Chief Meteorologist, you'll oversee weather coverage at our station, leading a team of experienced meteorologists to keep audiences up to date on the latest weather news. You'll also be the face of our station's weather operation, delivering forecasts, telling stories, and connecting with audiences on air. As part of a collaborative team that creates compelling, timely, and accurate newscasts, your work will keep audiences informed across traditional and digital platforms. Responsibilities:
• Prepare and deliver weather reports and forecasts for on-air and on digital platforms at regularly scheduled times, either live or recorded. Deliver severe weather updates as needed.
• Analyze weather data and synthesize the information into clear, easy-to-understand graphics.
• Present weathercasts from the studio or on-location.
Required Qualifications
• Experience: Forecasting and presenting weathercasts 6+ years, including severe weather coverage - 6+ years, working knowledge of TV weather graphics systems.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in meteorology, AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment.
• Technical Skills: Synoptic, tropical, and radar meteorology expertise.
• Skills: On-camera skills and the ability to work collaboratively within the newsroom.
• Abilities: Taking initiative, anticipating situations, and establishing priorities.
• Travel Ability: Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community.
• Schedule: Ability to work different shifts and be flexible with schedule changes.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree
• Management or leadership experience - 2+ years.
• Working knowledge of general office computer software, newsroom software, and basic non-linear editing systems.
