Job Description
Position Purpose: Produce weather forecasts using various tools & technologies. Report in the field
- especially when we have big weather events. Also fill-in on the air, providing consistently accurate information and weather predictions.
Primary Responsibilities:
Use the station's weather tools & technologies to develop accurate weather forecasts.
Track and deliver breaking weather information live during times of weather emergency.
Interact with other talent from in the field or on-air in a manner that builds the talent team and makes viewers feel confident with that team.
Keen eye for graphics production that help tell a weather story.
Deliver forecasts with energy, accuracy, and with consistently error free performance.
Work closely and cooperatively with news and promotions producers and managers to promote the daily weather story and the station's overall weather brand.
Use social media to promote the station's weather coverage on broadcast 7 streaming, build its weather brand, and drive traffic to the station's website weather coverage.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
College degree required; degree in meteorology preferred.
AMS seal required, although we will consider candidates who are working toward their seal.
At least 2 years of experience as a weather forecaster at a commercial television station.
Standout colleague who can execute news managers' goals for a particular newscast.
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and act with appropriate urgency during times of breaking weather news.
Proven ability to use data to create a forecast from scratch; we're not looking for someone who just reads a forecast created by someone else.
Must be available to work all shifts.
