Job Description

The CBS News Washington Bureau is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Producer with strong political expertise and editorial judgment, field production experience, and excellent broadcast script writing skills based in Washington, DC.!

This producer will pitch and develop political news and feature stories for day of air and future planning. They will work very closely with correspondents in Washington and across the country and will be responsible for story production from concept to broadcast, while collaborating with the Executive and Senior Producers for the Evening News and CBS Morning News and other broadcast platforms including streaming and dot com!

Candidates must have the ability to make quick and thoughtful decisions, crash stories under pressure, and work with the editor to produce visually compelling segments. It is essential that this producer can take initiative by making calls and coming up with creative angles and bookings for fast-paced news cycle, as well as do political reporting. Candidates should be able to provide comprehensive research under deadline and often within hours.

Qualifications:
• Degree or equivalent experience in broadcast journalism, political science or related fields is preferred.
• 5+ years of editorial experience working in a broadcast news environment required.
• Passion for politics, news, journalism, and storytelling is required.
• Ability to shoot video with prosumer-grade equipment from the field is required.
• Must have solid news judgment and experience chasing breaking news.
• Proficiency in the broadcast newsgathering process with strong field experience is preferred.
• Must balance and prioritize multiple assignments with different deadlines: short, medium, and long-term.
• Must be an excellent writer with an ability to tell sensitive stories.
• Demonstrated experience developing sources is a must.
• Ability to work in dynamic, fast-paced environment, under tight deadlines is critical
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• Must be a self-starter who works well within a team but can stand and produce as an individual contributor.
• Must be willing and able to work extensive hours as news warrants, especially during campaign season.
• Must have a valid driver's license and passport, and unrestricted ability to drive/fly.
• Must be adaptable with travel requirements and changing schedules as the position will require some planned travel and short notice travel for breaking political news.
