Job Description
The Executive Producer for CBS News Streaming's Series and Special Coverage is a key editorial position leading development, production and execution of multi-part live and taped series, as well as studio and field-based special projects. This role encompasses everything from planning remote shows months ahead of time to completing day and week long series on shorter time horizons and everything in between! The EP comes into each day with an eagerness to find compelling ways to tell and evolve stories across hours and weeks using a mix of formats, and is hands-on in the production process while leading a small group of producers and coordinating with key collaborators across the news division.
Key attributes of successful candidates include deep experience with both breaking and planned news coverage at a national or global news organization, field production, crafting pieces in edit, conceptualizing individual live segments and full-show rundowns, and executing in the control room. The EP is a key contributor who demonstrates the ability to produce eye-catching and informative video journalism, is editorially rigorous, communicative and collaborative, and has a track record of thriving in a deadline-conscious newsroom while keeping calm during high-stress situations.
Key responsibilities:
• Conceptualizing, developing, and producing day and week long series consisting of field reports, live interviews and studio segments.
• Planning and fulfilling long-lead special coverage tied to key news events, political landmarks, and major sports moments
• Serving as a streaming liaison with the news division's Special Events team on cross-organization projects
• Coordinating with broadcast editorial, production and logistics teams, digital and social partners on roll-outs and division-wide plans
• Organizing breaking news remotes and serving in the field, including traveling on short notice as needed
• Drafting budgets and tracking actual spending, in partnership with financial team leads
• Managing a small team comprised of a special projects producer and studio/touch screen producer
• Working with booking producers, planning and assignment editors, bureau chiefs, correspondents and streaming producers as projects require
• Working in the control room and leading live coverage, as warranted
• Participating in editorial and production meetings with an eye toward developing insightful, original coverage
• Communicating clearly and regularly with streaming editorial leadership
• Serving as fill-in executive producer for weekday news hours, leading an editorial team to produce live programming
• Creating and supporting a positive work culture
• Maintaining the highest standards of CBS News
Key requirements:
• At least ten years of experience in broadcast journalism, with recent experience at a national or global broadcast or streaming news organization
• At least five years' experience managing a news production team
• Proven experience leading news teams to achieve first-rate results
• Experience producing & boothing live newscasts in a national news environment
• Exceptional organizational skills that allow for balancing several projects at same time and to prioritize when needed
• Must be able to work early mornings, late nights, weekends and unpredictable hours on short notice based on news and coverage needs
Note: This role is based in New York City and is eligible for Paramount Global's hybrid work model with at least three in-office days each week. This designation is subject to change.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $124,000.00 - 175,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
