Job Description
The Foreign Desk operates seven days a week, 365 days a year supporting CBS News shows and platforms with editorial and video content. The Associate Producer must have a keen interest in News. This role is responsible for newsgathering activities of the Foreign and National Desks and making sure all platforms are aware of editorial and video developments that will be of national interest. Understanding that social media plays an ever-increasing role in coverage of trending and breaking news, the candidate must be familiar with and proficient with navigating all major social media platforms.

This position will be based in New York and will work a hybrid Sunday – Thursday schedule, unless there is a change in company policy.

Responsibilities:
• Work across all CBS News media platforms and broadcasts; CBS News bureaus (domestic and international) to identify and secure strong story elements for planned coverage and breaking news.
• Respond to video and editorial requests from all shows and platforms.
• Provide creative input, pitch, help develop and complete original stories.
• Attend editorial meetings and pitch story ideas to show producers
• Monitor various sources, i.e., wire services, social media, agency video, various publications, etc., to find and identify breaking news and trending topics of international/national interest and alert teams across our various platforms.
• Able to quickly turn around critical information for air, verifying its accuracy, while simultaneously getting live phone interviews, live video, transmissions and/or taped coverage of the news event.
• Conduct outreach to local and national law enforcement, agencies, government, etc., that could provide confirmation and details related to breaking news.
• Ability to gather and disseminate information in a timely, concise, and accurate manner to team members across our platforms.

Qualifications:
• Degree or equivalent experience in broadcast Journalism, or related fields is preferred.
• Strict adherence to the highest journalistic standards.
• Strong editorial, logistical and technical skills are essential.
• Solid understanding of broadcast newsgathering.
• Prior experience working with an international or domestic news assignment desk preferred.
• Knowledge of foreign television markets and station relationships a plus.
• Familiarity with all major social media platforms.
• Requires strong editorial judgment and ability to identify and pitch stories.
• Ability to multitask and set priorities often under tight deadline.
• Solid interpersonal and communication skills with the ability and willingness to receive feedback.
• Comfortable working alone or as part of a team.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the News landscape.
• Demonstrate a resolution focused approach to assignments.
• Requires highly developed relationship-building skills and a keen sense of resourcefulness.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced and deadline driven environment is critical.
• Must be able to work an adaptable schedule including holidays, weekends, evenings, and overnight.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $65,000.00 - 68,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
