The Role

Complex Networks is seeking a freelance News Writer to join our editorial team. Reporting directly to the News Director and on-shift News Editors, the News Writer will pitch and write stories for the Complex editorial news team. The ideal candidate is a digitally-savvy journalist with a passion for reporting news who can react quickly and effectively to developing stories and the conversations they create.

You Will
• Pitch and write news stories in a timely manner
• Cover breaking news with quick and accurate information
• Properly build draft in Content Management System, which includes story writeup, headline, lead image, and more required fields
• Proofread and fact-check draft before turning in to editor for review
• Actively monitor digital publishers, social media, and other resources for potential news coverage in between writeups
• Occasionally update news stories

You Have
• 2+ years of writing and reporting experience at a publisher or website
• A strong understanding of the subjects Complex covers
• Outstanding spelling and grammar competency
• Exceptional multi-tasking and communication skills
• Sound editorial judgment
• The ability to work under pressure and hit deadlines while maintaining quality work
• Experience working in a Content Management System
• Flexibility in schedule to potentially work daytime, evenings, and weekends
