Job Description
                    Billboard is seeking a dynamic News Editor to support our fast-paced coverage of the music industry, culture, and breaking news. The ideal candidate is a sharp writer and editor with a strong sense of urgency, excellent judgment, and deep knowledge of the music and entertainment landscape. Reporting to the director of business news, the News Editor will focus on music industry news, trends, and developments, while crafting newsletters and social media posts to grow and engage Billboard's business audience.
What You'll Do:
• Write, edit, publish and promote Billboard's coverage of breaking industry news, ensuring excellence in accuracy, timeliness, and relevance.
• Craft high-quality news articles and analysis that resonates with Billboard's audience of music professionals and enthusiasts.
• Design and oversee the production of daily and weekly newsletters, crafting compelling subject lines and engaging content tailored to subscribers.
• Collaborate with the social media team to increase traction for industry news across platforms, leveraging trends and analytics to engage and expand Billboard's audience.
• Build and maintain relationships with key industry contacts and serve as a trusted voice in music business reporting.
• Monitor music industry developments including labels, streaming platforms, touring, tech, legal disputes, policy changes, and executive movements to develop timely stories and exclusives.
• Manage content updates and ensure team coverage on tight deadlines during breaking news scenarios.
• Work collaboratively with writers, reporters, editors, and designers to uphold Billboard's standards for visual and editorial excellence.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field.
• 5+ years of editorial experience in a fast-paced newsroom or digital media outlet.
• Strong writing, editing, and headline skills.
• Proven ability to manage breaking news cycles.
Typical wage range: $66,500k - $75k.
