Billboard: Charts & Data Analyst (Country/Christian/Gospel Charts)
The Charts & Data Analyst is responsible for all aspects of the country, Christian and gospel charts in Billboard and Billboard Country Update, and on billboard.com. This person would be depended upon to maintain the relevancy and accuracy of Billboard's current chart menu, conducting daily and weekly data analysis, detailing chart movements and data trends via editorial and social content, and seeking out new means of charting music consumption dictated by market shifts. This person would be the Billboard charts and data representative to the music industry community for his or her specific genre charts and act as a liaison for those formats with our data sources, which include Luminate and various radio, sales, social and streaming providers.
Responsibilities:
• Decide on and maintain relevancy and accuracy of current chart menu for the country, Christian and Gospel genres, while seeking out new means of charting music consumption.
• Review new titles (songs and albums) for proper genre placement on country, Christian and gospel charts.
• Conduct daily and weekly analysis and validation of Luminate data consisting of streaming, airplay, sales, short-form video, etc, for chart eligibility purposes.
• Maintain open dialogue with data providers, including Luminate and various social and streaming providers, alerting them of any potential chart issues. Respond to any inquiries/issues that our data providers may have.
• Write daily and weekly chart-related editorial content in addition to trend/observation-based columns.
• Appear on camera for Billboard created long-form and short-form video features regarding the genres that you oversee, providing insight and analysis on chart movements, data trends and format news.
• Presents ideas for larger features covering country, Christian and gospel music to editorial staff.
• Act as the Billboard representative for country, Christian and gospel with record labels, management, artists, digital streaming services, retail outlets, radio stations, social media platforms, media and our audience. Initiate and accept inquiries from these sectors as well as attend industry functions connected to those formats.
Requirements:
• Candidates should have a minimum five-year employment history in a related music field.
• Prior published writing experience.
• Data analysis experience.
• Familiarity of influential people in various sectors of the industry a plus.
• Knowledge of country music, with a familiarity of Christian and gospel music.
• Experienced in analyzing data sets to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
• Proficient writing and verbal skills with ability to effectively communicate data insights.
• A deep understanding of social media platforms as well as new media platforms which incorporate music as a tool for their users.
• An understanding of the music industry and the platforms which drive music consumption among fans.
• Proficient in industry databases, such as Luminate Music Connect, MediaBase, Google Analytics.
• Familiarity of influential people in various sectors of the industry a plus.
