As the No. 1 station in Philadelphia for almost 45 years, 6abc Action News delivers local news, information, traffic and weather to more than 3 million homes. WPVI serves close to 7 million people 2+ who reside in The Delaware Valley, an area covering Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware. In the past year Action News has won 2,633 out of 2,662 newscasts in households for a winning percentage of 99.8%. In an average day Action News captures nearly 45% of all adult 25-54 news viewers. Won the 2019 Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards for best anchor, ABC7 Eyewitness News Anchor Terrell Brown, and best spot news coverage on the killing of McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Jacob Keltner and the hours-long standoff with the suspect No. 1 in 45 years. In 2019, WPVI celebrated 100 years of coverage of the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Philadelphia's dominant news station is looking for a trailblazing, ahead-of-the-curve video journalist to join the Action News team. The successful candidate embraces new technology and is not afraid to use it. Must deliver impactful storytelling, utilize next-generation shooting techniques, and incorporate high-end craft editing as well as a proven track record in the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of daily news gathering.
The ideal candidate is self-reliant, a creative photojournalist who is a team player with the resourcefulness to improvise and solve problems when required.
Responsibilities:
• Shoot, produce, and edit video content in a fast-paced environment that is compelling and informative to our viewers.
• Collaborate with field reporters, content producers, and writers on the team to create visual pieces for all productions, including linear and digital platforms.
• Troubleshoot, proactively identify, and quickly resolve technical issues and inefficiencies.
• Facilitate, gather, and maintain digital assets and footage for all platforms.
Basic Qualifications:
• A minimum of 3 years of ENG shooting and editing experience in a large or network-level television market
• Experience using P2 cameras
• Ability to edit in a fast-paced environment and create compelling content
• Ability to multitask, prioritize & manage tasks simultaneously
• Must be familiar with basic video and audio principles.
• Hours will vary depending on the needs of the news department, so flexibility to work a varied schedule is required.
• Candidates must have a valid driver's license to operate station vehicles
• The ability to lift and carry 30 lbs. of equipment to use during taped and live productions is required.
• Skilled in IP devices for live capabilities such as DEJERO & LIVEU.
• A working operational knowledge of microwave/broadband mobile units, streaming technology, and file transfer solutions is crucial.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated knowledge of Adobe Premier non-linear editing is preferred.
• Prior experience supporting digital platforms is a plus.
