Producer / Reporter, Transportation Unit

Job Description

ABC NEWS is hiring a Producer/Reporter for its Transportation Unit. The Producer/Reporter will cover the Transportation beat in an off-air role for all ABC News platforms, including broadcast, digital, streaming, and radio. They will work closely with ABC's Transportation Unit correspondent and two other transportation producers. This position requires a mix of skills including strong reporting, television news script writing and the desire to break stories on the transportation beat.

Candidate must be able to work in a fast paced, breaking news environment and be willing to travel on short notice and potentially for extended periods. This position requires flexible hours, including weekends and early mornings.

This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site and the remainder of their time remotely.

Responsibilities:
• Report on all aspects of transportation.
• Develop and maintain sources within the transportation industry
• Produce live shots on location
• Pitch future stories
• Write digital copy and scripts

Basic Qualifications:
• Three (3) years journalism experience in a news environment with extensive writing, reporting and producing is preferred.
• Superior news judgment and ability to find primary sources to produce daily story assignments, breaking news events, and long-term futures reporting.
• Extremely strong editorial skills
• Knowledge and a strong interest in the transportation industry

Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with aviation/travel

Required Education:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

The hiring range for this position in New York is $99,400 - $136,730 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
