MULTIMEDIA REPORTER DIGITAL UNIT (Project Hire) ABC News

ABC News Digital is hiring a Multimedia Reporter based in Washington, DC

The hybrid role is based at ABC News bureau in Washington, DC Although a key part of the role is managing text stories, the person in this role is also responsible for coordinating other key editorial elements and liaising with the wider newsgathering operation as well as broadcast units and audience development teams.

Responsibilities:

This role reports on and writes government and politics digital text stories in coordination with the DC teams and the wider news division, and also does original reporting.

This Multimedia Reporter is also responsible for writing breaking news and DC-related live blogs that are launched during events such as key congressional hearings, debates, and breaking news situations.

This reporter is also expected to coordinate coverage with the senior editors and the teams responsible for videos, photos, social media and platforms.

The ideal candidate is a digitally savvy journalist who can work quickly and smartly in a highly competitive environment to generate story ideas and pitches and to execute them on deadline.

The reporter will have a strong sense of how to approach a story holistically – weaving together feeds, their own reporting, videos, photos and social embeds to create stories that are sharp, informative and highly visual.

Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years' experience reporting/writing for a digital news outlet
• Ability to write on deadline with speed and accuracy
• Proven experience handling breaking news
• Experience with and interest in Washington and political news
• Experience with web publishing and AP style
• Ability to balance priorities, multiple projects and tasks
• Brings energy and positivity to the group dynamic

Required Education:
• BA or BS from a 4-year accredited college or university or equivalent experience

Preferred Education:
• Master's degree in journalism from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience

The hiring range for this position in Washington, DC is $75,200 to $103,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
