The Director, Corporate Communications for ABC News will report to the Vice President of Corporate Communications to craft messaging and manage ABC News' reputation through external and internal communications strategies in support of the organization's strategic goals.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of strategic and effective communication skills, building trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, a collaborative spirit and the ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment. This role works with executives and teams across the division.
Responsibilities:
• Drive an integrated executive communications strategy in line with ABC News business goals that establishes, expands, and enhances the organization's brand awareness and reputation both internally and externally.
• Establish objectives, manage execution, and drive key results for communication efforts that shape and promote ABC News with employees, stakeholders, press and the public.
• Develop key messaging and ensure consistent use across all platforms to promote the overall ABC News brand and its groups.
• Act as an advisor to leaders across ABC News, providing insights, perspective and counsel on communications strategies and issues.
• Partner with HR on internal announcements and initiatives
• Raise the profile of ABC News and its executives by identifying and securing coverage in key publications and executive participation in prestigious industry events, panels, and awards.
• Strong press contacts.
• Strong speechwriting and ability to capture varying executive voices for speeches, quotes, and messaging.
• Develop communications support material to prepare executive leadership for strategic engagements with media, stakeholders and employees.
• Work in complete collaboration with the VP Corporate Communications, ABC News Communications on identifying and developing strategic communications initiatives.
• Maintain talking points to support ABC News executive engagements, and media prep.
• Remain abreast of industry developments and news, and communicate industry intelligence and insights to the leadership team.
• Align with and support broader initiatives, priorities and values of The Walt Disney Company.
Basic Qualifications:
• Ideally 10+ years of experience overseeing corporate communications strategy and execution.
• Crisis communications experience managing messaging and brand reputation.
• Ability to establish and support strategies, effectively executive, and innovate as needed to achieve the optimal outcome.
• Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to grasp and translate complex and disparate ideas into a cohesive editorial with clear key messaging.
• Ability to influence senior leaders using sound judgment, wisdom and sensitivity.
• Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.
• Fluent in digital communication mediums and multi-channel communications strategies.
• Deep experience with Microsoft Office suite, PowerPoint and/or Keynote, Survey Monkey, Microsoft, Splash, Mali Chimp, and/or Banana Tag.
Preferred Qualifications:
• News and /or entertainment industry experience
• Passion for news and knowledge of ABC News talent and programming across all platforms
• Ideal candidate will have working experience in both internal and external communications functions, with experience in issues management, and media relations.
• Be strategically minded and demonstrate ability to develop of plans, milestones and metrics that align with business objectives.
• Persuasiveness and the ability to logically make a case that helps others arrive at the right decision for the business; shows persistence in raising issues to the proper levels for attention.
Required Education:
• Bachelor's degrees from an accredited university, or equivalent work experience in communications, journalism, media relations or related field

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $145,040 to $199,430 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
