Freelance Digital News Associate, Newsgathering (ABC News Los Angeles Bureau)

The ABC News Assignment Desk in Los Angeles is hiring a freelance Digital News Journalist (DNA). The DNA supports and facilitate the Assignment Desk in newsgathering operations including field producing, writing, reporting and coordinating the live needs of a 24/7 news organization.  The candidate must be a collaborator, have excellent communication and organizational skills, and able to excel in a high-pressured, deadline-driven news environment. This is an ideal opportunity for junior-level candidates to become part of the daily news gathering operation of a 24/7 global newsroom.

Responsibilities:
• Providing production support to the ABC News Assignment Desk (answering phones, booking travel) as well as assisting producers and correspondents on assignments in the field.
• Writing stories for ABC News Digital platforms.
• Identifying, researching, and pitching stories, making editorial calls
• Monitoring video feeds for the entire News Division.

Required Qualifications:
• Active news consumer with a genuine interest in journalism, production, and a wide variety of current events.
• Excellent multi-tasker with attention to details.
• Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Availability to work flexible schedules, extended hours, weekends, evenings, and overnights.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience in a broadcast or digital newsroom.
• Proficiency in additional languages.

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent in experience

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, California is $52,400- $70,200. per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
