Associate Producer, Visual Verification

Job Description

The Associate Producer, Visual Verification, a key member of ABC's newsgathering team, uses cutting-edge digital forensic techniques to assist in the verification of images, including user- generated content (UGC), during breaking news events.

In this role, you will exercise strong news judgment enabling you to proactively identify the multimedia needs of ABC News platforms. You will use basic digital forensic techniques to assist in the verification of this material to support reporting by all ABC News platforms.

Knowledge of open-source intelligence (OSINT) methods is highly desirable; strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. You are someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

You will be encouraged to contribute to the production original reported pieces as the news cycle allows on topics including, but not limited to, OSINT, artificial intelligence, mis- and disinformation and social media platform policy.

This role requires flexible hours including some weekends.

Responsibilities:
• Monitoring social platforms for UGC related to breaking news
• Secure proper clearance for network use of multimedia content
• Assist Producers with verification of multimedia and digital forensics-based reporting
• Liaise with Standards and Legal departments as necessary

Experience Desired:
• Ability to use both OSINT and traditional journalism methods to verify multimedia
• Experience with social newsgathering
• Highly organized and detail oriented with exceptional sense of accountability
• At least 1 year experience with news organization, including internship experience
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and generate ideas in a fast-paced environment

The hiring range for this position in New York is $59,100 to $81,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
