Assignment Editor, ABC News Washington DC (WGA)

ABC News Washington DC is hiring an Assignment Editor (WGA).

Responsibilities:

The Assignment Editor (WGA) will coordinate coverage of breaking and ongoing news stories, assign appropriate staff including correspondents, producers, and digital journalists, coordinate and support field newsgathering teams and work with logistics and operations to ensure the operational, technical and ENG needs of the field teams are being met. They will monitor various media platforms for breaking and ongoing news stories; they must be adept at locating, verifying and clearing social content for all platforms while multi-tasking and making decisions quickly under deadline. The Assignment Editor will work directly with all ABC News broadcasts as well as NewsOne, Audio and Digital to identify and pitch interesting local, regional, national and international stories. They must coordinate assignments with the DC beats including Politics, Law/Justice/Terrorism, Global Affairs & Transportation as well as Audio, NewsOne & Digital.

Basic Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 years' experience in broadcast news. The Assignment Editor must have a strong editorial background with the ability to focus on finding unique and forward-looking story ideas. The candidate must be familiar with all broadcasts and platforms and be an advocate for stories and staff. This assignment editor's schedule will be a combination of weekdays, weekends as well as overnights. Familiarity with the Washington beats and the DC region preferred.
