The Role

This position will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day Product Development and Packaging functions from concept to production. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong project management skills, who is detailed-oriented, organized, and has a strong interest in color cosmetics. The position is located in Los Angeles and will report to the Director of Product Development and Packaging.

Responsibilities

General Product Development:
• Provide general support to Product Development and Packaging Director
• Research and evaluate new and best-selling competitive products to help guide product positioning as it relates to formula, packaging, claims and product pricing
• Assists Director in day-to-day tracking of project milestones, communicating with manufacturers and fostering vendor relations
• Create product competitive analyses
• Conduct in-house product testing surveys and gather feedback to inform development direction
• Assist in the evaluation of batch submissions for all color products, establishing standards as needed, relaying feedback and/or approvals to manufacturers, and updating the relevant tracking logs
• Work closely with Operations team to track development milestones, discuss project specifics/logistics, and navigate vendor relations
• Help identify process improvement opportunities and works with Director to implement solutions
• Opportunity to lead shade extension and/or limited-edition projects

Administrative:
• Maintain accurate and complete product information files- testing logs, formula
masters and packaging standards
• Track status and completion of stability, compatibility, and other formula testing throughout development process. Evaluate testing samples for conformance
• Manage and organize product sample archives, including but not limited to development submissions, packaging prototypes, product standards, shade standards, competitive samples, and range boards
• Prepare comps for internal and retailer meetings, photoshoots, activations/events, and photo-ready samples
• Assist in the gathering and tracking of regulatory documents needed for compliancy efforts
• Send and receive packages

Package Development:
• Assist Director in proofing primary, label and secondary copy and artwork
• Assist with the sizing of bottom and shade labels as well as cartons, gathering dielines and deco areas as needed to complete artwork layout
• Create fill and assembly instructions, including packout standards
• Assist in the review of primary packaging range boards

Qualifications
• 1-2 years of Product Development experience (preferred but not required)
• Organized, detail-oriented go-getter who is eager to learn
• Creative, problem-solver with strong analytical skills
• Eye for color and creative nuance with a passion for beauty
• Strong ability to collaborate with other team members and departments
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment
• Ability to adapt and pivot in an always-evolving environment
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel
