Summer 2021 Virtual Intern – Sekou Smith NBA Digital Memorial InternshipSekou Smith was a beloved member of the Turner Sports family for more than 11 years. He was a trusted contributor to our NBA coverage as a reporter, on-air analyst and podcast host. He graduated from Jackson State University, one of the largest HBCUs in the country, and covered the NBA for more than 20 years. In honor of his legacy, Turner Sports and NBA Digital have created this memorial internship for an HBCU student so that they may have the opportunity to work in the same field where Sekou made such an impact.
The Team/ The Job
The NBA Digital Summer Intern will work on the NBA.com news desk alongside other digital producers. This position will edit and publish NBA news and feature stories on NBA.com, it's mobile site, and on the NBA app. The position will also monitor programming on NBA TV, and select and publish show segments for all digital platforms.
The Daily
• Edit news and feature stories
• Update web and app with timely, relevant NBA news
• Occasionally write for the NBA audience
• Monitor NBA TV programming and select segments for digital publishing
• Update historical NBA hubs, like NBA History and the NBA Draft
The Essentials
• Strong knowledge of the NBA, it's teams, players and history
• Enthusiasm and willingness to work in a 24-hour news environment
• Ability to edit and write under deadline pressure
• Strong language skills; basic knowledge of digital publishing
• Must be currently enrolled in a HBCU
Internship Program
• Students must be currently enrolled in a college degree program for full duration of the internship.
• Summer 2021 program dates are June 7th - August 13th; must be available for full program duration.
• Full-time schedule (40 hours/week) designed to work around class schedule.
• Fully remote/virtual experience; company owned laptop provided for the duration of the internship program.
• Salary based on office location; relocation is not provided.
• This position is targeted towards upperclassmen and graduate students at HBCUs
