Legal Intern, Sony Pictures Animation – Summer 2023

The Sony Pictures Entertainment Internship program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside the teams that come together to create movies, TV shows, and other great experiences. These seasonal, paid assignments provide meaningful and productive work that allows you to build your resume, experience and develop your skills further. You will be provided with challenging tasks, real-world experience, valuable networking opportunities, and many educational and social opportunities. This Summer Internship is from May/June through Sept. 1st (start and end dates are flexible based on school schedules) and all candidates must be able to work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday in the specified location This is not a remote role. A hybrid work option may or may not be available.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

Legal Sony Pictures Animation Intern, MPG – Spring 2023 The Sony Pictures Animation Legal Affairs department provides a wide variety of legal support across both features and series for Sony Pictures Animation. The studio's latest releases include the visually groundbreaking and critically-acclaimed ''The Mitchells vs. The Machines'', the musical adventure ''Vivo'' featuring original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and ''Hotel Transylvania: Transformania,'' the fourth installment in the beloved monster movie franchise. The division is also behind hit film series such as ''Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'' and ''Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,'' which received the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2019. Up next for Sony Pictures Animation is the highly-anticipated sequel, ''Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One),'' set for theatrical release in June 2023.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Draft agreements including certificates of ownership, standard terms, voice cast day players and riders, and artists, as well as other production related agreements and forms. Redline various contracts based on comments received in relation to department policy. Review and draft chain of title memoranda and other chain of title documents as requested. Assist in preparing and correcting forms, templates and other documents as needed. Learn business practices and legal issues relevant to entertainment, including union and employment issues, and IP concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Rising second or third-year law student at an accredited ABA law school with a 3.0 GPA or better. Must have completed contract law class with a grade of B or better. Proficient in Microsoft suite (Word, Outlook, Excel). Strong written and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Copyright or entertainment law classes with a grade of B or better.
