This 12 month program is a fantastic opportunity for anyone in the very early stages of their career to join one of the leading companies in Film and TV. Although each role is different and part of a different department, all our internships will give you an in-depth understanding of the industry and department and will play a major part in helping to carve out your future career.

Department Description:

Strategic Global Procurement reports through the Finance structure and is responsible for managing external spend with third party suppliers, who provide goods and services to SPE's various businesses. Businesses supported are the Motion Picture Group which includes film labels Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems, TriStar Pictures, Sony Pictures Animation, and Sony Pictures Classics, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and TV distribution business which manages the sales, distribution and marketing of digital as well as physical DVD product in retail as well as distribution on streaming platforms and Sony Pictures Television which operates a range of pay and free TV channels (particularly in Latin America) in its Networks division, ranging from linear and VOD (video on demand) services to third party platforms through to direct to consumer SVOD (subscription video on demand) services.

The procurement team therefore has the unique advantage of working with collaborators from across various businesses, enabling a well-rounded view of SPE.

The Procurement department delivers meaningful value through proactive and strategic supplier management and has been gradually expanding its influence in most areas of supplier spend from Post-production to IT, to Marketing and Professional services. A key aim of the department is to embed a procurement approach across the business, by deploying structured and consistent procurement tools and techniques, embedding supplier relationship management programs, enabling transactional efficiency and supporting source to pay solutions. The team also partners closely with the various business Finance leads as well as other support departments such as Legal.

What you will do:

Working with SPE businesses: (Motion Picture Group, Home Entertainment and TV distribution) you will be involved in projects and analysis across the business including other functions such as Finance and Corporate and potentially across different territories such as EMEA, LATAM, North America. Key responsibilities will be to support the Procurement team with commercial analysis on external supplier spend, analysing supplier commercial proposals and assisting with PowerPoint presentations.
Over the course of the placement you will work on collating and categorising spend across key countries, providing deep-dive analysis on supplier invoices and commercial proposals and translating analysis into stakeholder-friendly presentations.

You will primarily work with the Marketing and Production Procurement category team, however there will be opportunities to assist with projects in the Professional Services and Corporate Services categories. Within the Marketing and Production category projects could cover the following subcategories:
• Media
• Creative
• PR & Promotions
• Print
• Market Research
• Production Goods
• Production Services

What you will learn:

This placement will be challenging yet rewarding, and over the course of the 12 months and through a combination of support and hands on experience, we will aim to give you a solid grounding in the following:

You will acquire a knowledge of:
• European markets (primarily UK, Spain, France, Germany)
• The Entertainment Industry
• End to end Procurement processes, such as supporting the team with Request for Proposals (RFPs), which involve gathering information from suppliers to evaluate proposals and compiling decks which summarise analysis.
• Marketing Procurement category expertise (many projects will support the Marketing Procurement category)
• Working with the US Procurement team

You will develop skills in:
• Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other procurement systems
• Analysing supplier spend data
• Managing your own workload/projects (Project Management skills)
• Commercial /Business understanding e.g. Financial competence e.g. understanding of key cost drivers and how these impact total cost
• Light touch understanding of contracts
• Procurement and Procurement category management (e.g. nuances of different procurement categories e.g. Marketing, Post-production, Facilities etc.)
• Some negotiation skills

You will gain experience of:
• Working in a major Hollywood Studio
• Working in the growing area of Procurement
• Learning about other functions in the business e.g., Finance, Legal, Marketing, Research etc.
• Providing analysis and support to deliver tangible savings and value to the business
• Stakeholder management – learning to build relationships with a wide range of team members in different countries and within the Procurement team
• Interacting with select external suppliers

What you need:

This internship would be best suited to undergraduate students looking for a year in industry as part of their degree or students who are about to or have recently graduated and are looking for a placement year.

Whilst there is no prerequisite degree for this placement, it would be ideal if you enjoy analysis and have an ability and passion for numbers yet at the same time can translate analysis into easily digestible messages/findings. You should enjoy commercial analysis/data manipulation and distilling findings into easily understandable key points.

We are therefore looking for candidates who will meet and can demonstrate the following criteria:
• Knowledge and interest in Film and Television
• Excellent analysis and commercial outlook
• Good communication/presentation skills – both written and verbal. Being able to interact professionally and clearly with collaborators, external suppliers and the wider Procurement team is important.
