Game Squad Engineering Internship (Remote)

Status: Internship/Full-Time/Remote

Supervisor Title: Senior Manager, Technology

Time Commitment: 40 hours/week, June 2023 – August 2023

Compensation: $15/hour for undergraduate students, $17/hour for graduate students

Position Overview:

The Game Squad Engineering Intern will work for the PBS KIDS Game Squad on a Game Library Research project. They will build a prototype game using a few of the newer game development systems, evaluating how well they might work in our internal game ecosystem, SpringRoll. Specifically, they will start by building a game in Unity, and providing analysis on how well this technology works within SpringRoll.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Our intern will be responsible for creating and developing their own game using the Unity framework and incorporating this game into our SpringRoll ecosystem. This includes coming up with the game concept, developing the project, and incorporating the new framework into our existing game seed project. If successful with all these endeavors, then the intern will also be responsible for testing the new game with new device technologies.

Requirements for success:
• Computer Science major and currently enrolled in an accredited University OR a recent graduate of a coding bootcamp.

• Basic coding skills, preferably using JavaScript.

• Basic knowledge of git and version control.

• Quick learner and team player.

• Passionate about games and how they can be used to assist children's education.

Skills the Intern may gain:
Our intern will gain the skills necessary to work on a development team in real time– they will learn how to use source control and GitHub, a ticket tracking system, and project planning tools. They will also gain skills related to advanced programming– specifically they will become proficient in using git, the command line, GitHub, and implementing simple game architecture.
