Job Description
The Chicago White Sox are looking for an Intern to join our Research & Development team for the 2025 season. In this role you will work with our R&D team to create models and provide insight and practical applications to support the decision-making process in Baseball Operations. You will have exposure to the White Sox Player Acquisition, Player Development, Major League Strategy, and Foundational Research departments. This position requires a strong analytical background, and a passion for baseball and problem-solving. Come join our growing team and make a difference in the future of the Chicago White Sox!
Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree, or currently working toward a bachelor's degree, ideally in a Scientific or Mathematical-related field (Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, etc.)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with multiple departments and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated interest in baseball and working with baseball data sets.
• Proficiency with SQL and experience using relational databases
• Proficiency with at least one statistical computing language (R or Python preferred)
Responsibilities
• As part of the White Sox R&D Department, you will gain experience within Baseball Operations, collaborating with several sub-departments to answer questions, provide recommendations, and build decision making tools.
• Direct interaction with several types of stakeholders including Front Office Executives, Coaches, and Scouts to better understand Baseball Operation's needs.
• Identify and research potential areas of growth including data visualizations and reports, predictive models, and uses of surfacing data sources in the industry.
