Weather Reporter (freelance)

DUTIES: Responsible for live weather reports, both in studio and occasionally in the field. Must be able to build maps for weathercasts and needs to submit ideas for unique maps when it comes to fire weather, el ninos or other weather events unique to Southern California. May also be asked to report on weather from the field. Must be able to describe events happening during live broadcasts, integrating factual information in a compelling storytelling style. Keeps the Executive Producer (or line producer and/or assignment desk) updated on stories. Must be up to speed on local weather events, along with national events such as hurricanes and tornadoes.

REQUIREMENTS: Must have undergraduate degree or equivalent related experience. Prefer 3-5 years weather reporting experience in a medium to large market. Candidate will have excellent communication, writing and organizational skills. Must be able to accept constructive direction and criticism designed to enhance individual's performance. Able to appear live in a broadcast to deliver reports in a professional and effective manner. Stays informed on current events. Can perform duties and make decisions under pressure. KTLA may require individual to leave the building to cover local weather stories, be available to be assigned to all broadcasts and may be required to work additional hours or days. Also, must be capable of interacting positively and productively with other employees.
