DESCRIPTION:

Your Day-to-Day:
• Exercise editorial judgment in selection of content
• Write copy for anchor and reporter voices for live segments/readers as well as writing for feature and news packages
• Research and write questions for anchors for guest segments
• Write banners and quotes during breaking news
• Work with editors to turn around pre-taped segments
• Write and customize copy for anchor and reporter voices for live segments/readers as well as writing for feature and news packages
• Pitch & execute special, feature & recurring segments
• Support the development and production of digital media exclusive programming, writing and producing assigned features and cover stories
• Edit shows in accordance with our rights clearances
• Support special shows and projects as needed
• Production of our multimedia content for distribution to all digital platforms including mobile.
• Produces live and recorded segments including, but not limited to:
• Writing scripts and questions
• Designing and writing copy for graphics (including banners and full screens)
• Pulling specific video and soundbites
• Directing control room team during segments
• Coordinating with correspondents, guests, and anchors to inform them on segment subject matter
• Monitors live events and produces copy during breaking news;
• Gathers elements during breaking news;
• Pitches and executes stories
• Produces sponsored segments, including coordinating with sales and originals teams on deliverables
• Writes headlines and captions for segments to be posted online
• Works with Digital Line Producers and editors to clean up and update segments after they air
• May also perform the responsibilities of Digital Associates.
• Available for early morning, nights, weekends, holidays - this is a 24-hour network

QUALIFICATIONS:

What you bring to the team:

You have -
• Bachelor's degree
• Minimum 5 years working in broadcast journalism
• 3+ years experience writing copy for network, cable and/or local TV news in a major market
• Solid background in journalism and TV, including strong news judgment & critical thinking skills
• Impeccable grammar and spelling
• Experience in writing daily news and feature taped packages
• A passion for news
• Strong communication skills and ability to train and advise associate producers, production assistants and junior staff in writing and editing broadcast copy.
• Superior news judgment
• Command of AP style and broadcast writing.
• Must be very detail oriented with ability to work and write calmly and efficiently in high stress, intense deadline, live TV environment
• Must pass comprehensive CBS News Digital writing test
• Be able to multi-task and manage multiple assignments for regular programming as well as rolling breaking news coverage
• Available for early morning, nights, weekends, holidays - this is a 24-hour network
• You must be a team player with, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to multi-task

• Line producing experience
• A deep understanding of political news
• Strong understanding of digital and social media
