Job Description

Responsibilities
• Responsible for writing content for each newscast & digital
• Reports to News Director & Executive Producer
• Ability to execute in a daily breaking news environment
• Collaborates with producers, assignment desk and anchors to write content with strategy
• Produces under tight deadlines and attend editorial meetings
• Collaborates with producers, assignment desk and anchors to write content with strategy
• Respond to breaking news with urgency and accuracy.
• Must have an excellent command of the English & Spanish language: spelling, and grammar
• Writes headlines, teasers, news briefs, anchor intros and lead-ins
• Aware of daily news events including past news
• Distinguishes what events are considered news in the market
• Editing video clips
• Contributes story ideas, participates in daily coverage decisions
• Understands and follows all Telemundo News standards and ethics
• Other duties as assigned by News Director & Executive Producer

Qualifications/Requirements
• Must be able to speak, read and write fluently in Spanish and must be able to speak, read and understand English.
• 1 to 2 years producer experience or writing / editing .
• Excellent news judgment, brings forth creative ideas.
• Must have leadership qualities, be detail oriented, organized and able to handle intense deadline pressure.
• Must be willing to work in the Sacramento, CA area and travel as needed for special assignments.
• Must be willing to work long hours, varying shifts (including nights and weekends) and report to work on last minute emergency situations required for news coverage when necessary.
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
• Must be 18 years or older
• Must have a valid driver's license

Desired Characteristics
• Take an active role in selecting the stories of the day – constructing story ideas that reporters can turnover in one day
• Create producer driven content to enhance our coverage of the big story and other stories that appear in the newscast.
• Anticipate problems and address them throughout the course of the shift, eliminate all factual/spelling/other errors that appear in the show. If a problem arises, address it immediately.
• Bring creativity into every aspect of the newscast, use the Telemundo arsenal of tools and equipment to provide the most current information that is geographically diverse and maximizes viewer benefits.
• News judgment with solid ethical decision process.
• High competitive nature.
