Job Description

1010 WINS Digital and WCBS 880 Digital are seeking an experienced journalist with strong news judgement and news-gathering skills, as well as a passion for local news and audio storytelling This position involves working across 1010 WINS Digital and WCBS 880 Digital's various platforms, including the website (including audio and video elements), social channels, newsletter and mobile initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Generate original story ideas, develop new angles and follow-up pieces

Respond to breaking news and actively monitor sources of breaking news (Dataminr, Twitter, AP, etc.) and be prepared to jump on news as soon as it happens

Write clean, fast, accurate copy and headlines for all digital platforms

Ensure articles comply with AP style and that headlines are SEO-friendly

Ensure stories have appropriate elements (video, audio, social embeds)

Source photos for articles from photo agencies, social media and other sources

Post to social media accounts, compose push notifications and newsletters

Collaborate with reporters, producers, news desk to report out or advance stories and to create ways to enhance a story's audio potentia

Upload, edit audio and video files for posting on website

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, journalism degree a plus
• 2-3 years of experience reporting, writing at a news organization, preferably in New York City
• Excellent writing skills
• Outstanding news judgment, ability to work under deadline pressure and strong writing and reporting skills
• Knowledgeable about a variety of subjects beyond local news, including politics, sports, entertainment
• Experience with content management/online publishing systems
• Solid experience with social media publishing tools and social best practices
• Available weekends, and others days, depending on schedule and breaking news
