Job Description


CBS News Marketing is looking for someone who has extensive news and journalism experience and can developing strategic, creative and effective social media and digital marketing campaigns to support, launch and market a wide variety of News programs and initiatives. As the VP News Social Media, you will be responsible for managing all organic social media marketing efforts for CBS News master brand and properties, effectively engaging users across all types of social media platforms, designing and overseeing key talent marketing initiatives and leading our efforts to manage individual show handles (CBS Evening News, CBS This Morning, 60 Minutes, CBS Sunday Morning, 48 Hours, and Face the Nation). You will gather data to effectively set objectives, identify target audiences and develop, produce, implement and measure strategies, tactics and content plans that are coordinated with broader marketing and content initiatives. You will work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to develop and execute engaging, innovative, and strategic social media marketing, talent and content plans that helps build the CBS brand as a top choice for news content.
• Develop, implement and manage a clear strategic vision and strategy for all social media activities across CBS News master- and sub-brands
• Develop innovative and ground-breaking ideas that define our social media voice while enhancing the CBS brand
• Manage the development of all news social media marketing plans, including overall strategies and integrated engagement initiatives for both paid and organic efforts
• Set clear objectives, identify targets and set engagement strategies across a multitude of content types
• Build and implement strategies that provide the most advantageous opportunity to gain increased recognition and preference by our internal and external audiences and the broader news and media industry
• Develop and manage relationships with key publishers, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snap, YouTube, TikTok and other social/digital partners
• Develop and manage talent marketing strategies
• Gather, analyse and apply relevant data and customer insights to help define effective and innovative strategic approaches
• Measure outputs against internal and external efforts
• Build and manage positive, productive relationships with executive producers/showrunners, talent, publicists, agents, managers and media outlets
• Collaborate effectively with CBS Marketing leadership including media, creative and promotion teams
• Work collaboratively across business units, including CBS News, CBS Interactive, CBS Television Stations and other CBS-branded businesses and sister companies
• Build and manage relationships with external agency partners and vendors
• Effectively manage a budget against all efforts, including creative development and production
• Work to develop and implement new processes and mechanisms that will ultimately improve team performance, creativity, communication and collaboration


Work Experience:
• A combination totalling 10+ years of experience in broadcast and/or digital journalism, social media marketing and brand storytelling disciplines
• Relevant social media management experience with a news organization, studio, media company, streaming service, brand and/or entertainment marketing agency
• Experience leading social media strategic planning, creative development and implementation processes
• Experience leading a large team across multiple disciplines
• Experience with paid social media budgeting, planning, implementation and measurement/reporting
• Experience gathering and interpreting social media data
• Experience with influencer marketing

• Ability to develop forward-thinking ideas for a wide range of News marketing asset types, designed to drive customer acquisition/retention as we deepen audience engagement and enhance the CBS brand position
• Exceptional understanding of social and digital platforms, and how news is produced and shared on them
• Exemplary team player able to build relationships quickly with internal and external stakeholders with a wide range of personality types
• Professional experience in a leadership position overseeing a dynamic, diverse creative marketing team
