Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:
• Ability to juggle multiple projects in various stages of production as well as creating innovative storytelling for multiple platforms.
• Supervise a large team of reporters, producers and photographers to deliver high-quality, compelling and enterprising journalism for multiple platforms
• Identify and pitch investigative angles on big daily news stories as well as long-term enterprise stories that are highly promotable
• Guide process of story selection and execution.
• Communicate story pitches and developments with the Assistant News Director
• Coordinate year-round airdate calendar and assist creative services team in delivering promotions for stories
• Assist management team by participating in daily editorial meetings and communicating the investigative team's availability and role in day-to-day news coverage
• Manage the shooting and editing calendar to ensure all resources are used effectively
• Work closely with NBC News legal/standards team in producing and vetting stories
• Make digital and social media a priority from the first stages of production

Qualifications/Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 5 years experience working in news management
• Minimum 5 years experience in investigative journalism
• Minimum 10 years of newsroom newsgathering and/or production experience in top 20 market
• Minimum 10 years experience writing, producing and desktop editing
• Experience copyediting scripts
• Experience selecting, managing, developing and motivating a team of editorial news professionals

Eligibility Requirements:
• Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA
• Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and overnights
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

• Solid news judgment, strong writing and research skills
• Proven strong journalistic leadership, with the ability to assign, direct and supervise broadcast and digital news coverage
• Demonstrated ability lead a staff effectively, solve problems, prioritize decisions, and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a fast paced, breaking news, environment
• Experience in Los Angeles market and familiarity with Southern California audience and communities
• Basic understanding and demonstration of editorial judgment and journalistic ethics in all platforms, including a current knowledge of laws of libel, slander and applicable FCC rules and regulations
• Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements
• Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels
• Understanding of emerging news production techniques and technology, with a pioneering spirit with a desire learn emerging technologies and invent the future
• Believes that teams are smarter and more dynamic together
