Job Description
As a Policy Communications Manager, you will work closely with the press to help them better understand our policies and initiatives to support elections globally, develop events and campaigns to explain our policies and systems, support escalations, and build resources to help scale knowledge and best practices.

As a member of the Global Communications and Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists. You will devise specific communications materials and campaigns based on understanding of journalists' interests, engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers, develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns, and counter misinformation that might interfere with our business and ability to serve our users.

We help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners, opinion leaders--and our own employees--about the benefits of Google's products, our distinctive company culture/values and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day. You are quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious. To succeed in this role, you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines. Things happen quickly at Google, and to do great work, you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross-functionally with partners across PR, Communications, Marketing, Product, and beyond.

Resonsibilities:
• Work closely with the YouTube Policy teams to distill complex concepts into coherent and easy-to-understand communications material, including regular outreach to press around policy updates.
• Devise and execute PR campaigns to drive awareness around YouTube's elections efforts, including planning events and campaigns that offer more transparency on our policies and systems to our community, users, and press.
• Draft press releases, blogs, FAQs, tweets, video scripts, and key messages. Brief spokespeople and staff interviews. Identify and proactively present stories to highlight YouTube's responsibility work.
• Develop and maintain close, productive relationships with key journalists and influencers in tech, policy, and business press, as well as teams across Google.
• Work one weekend a month on-call to manage incoming press inquiries.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
• 6 years of experience in communications and policy work
• 5 years of experience in media relations

Preferred qualifications:
• Experience as on the record spokesperson and communicator on complex topics, including policy or legal topics
• Experience in creative storytelling, proactive press outreach, and building relationships with journalists and stakeholders
• Ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in fast-paced, high-stress environments. Ability to think, plan, and execute on multiple projects simultaneously, and to influence stakeholders
• Ability to coordinate and assign difficult projects and work well with a number of cross-functional teammates
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
