Job Description
Come grow with us! WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, MI is adding to its news producing team with openings for two Associate Producers. The Associate Producer is responsible for contributing story ideas, writing stories, organizing them within an energetic and memorable newscast, and digital content for the web.Duties/Responsibilities:
• Assists in writing and production of broadcast and on-line publication of stories.
• Contributes to the editorial process and makes solid decisions in breaking news situations.
• Writes, produces and edits material that appeals to target audiences.
• Researches, confirms and updates stories using the internet, video archives, and other information sources.
• Write and support line producers for assigned newscasts.
• Additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or related field is desired.
• 1-2 years experience in a working newsroom as either a writer or production assistant.
Requirements/Job Skills:
• Must be a consistent and solid writer.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to research, confirm and update stories.
• Ability to develop strong news judgement.
• Interact well with video journalists, anchors, news managers, production, digital and engineering staff.
• Possess journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations.
• Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral and visual media.
• Must be flexible with schedule and fill-in different shifts as needed.
