WHSV is located in Harrisonburg, Virginia situated in the Shenandoah Valley. We have been consistently honored for our journalism by the Associated Press and Virginia Association of Broadcasters.
Our team produces nearly 30 hours of local news each week. We strive to bring our viewers the best content on all platforms. Harrisonburg is a thriving community located two hours from Washington, DC and Richmond. We are the area's ABC, CBS and FOX affiliates.

WHSV carries all four major networks plus MeMY, ION, and Circle. Operations include a Studio, Bureau, 2 transmitter sites, 4 translator sites, and a microwave relay site.

Job Summary/Description:

The WHSV Assistant Chief Engineer will assist in the planning, purchasing, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of equipment related to production, broadcasting, computer networking, and general building maintenance.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:
• Trouble, Repair, and Install Basic PC and Networking Equipment
• Trouble, Repair, and Install Studio Equipment
• Trouble, Repair, and Install Field Equipment
• Troubleshoot and repair transmitter issues.
• Troubleshoot and repair fiber and microwave paths related to on-air issues.
• Help Engineering and Production staff to minimize loss of service
• Read and Update Engineering Protocols and Documentation

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Minimum 5-years experience in both RF and Studio Equipment installation, testing, and repair. Additional IT knowledge or experience a plus
• Good interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written, and must be fully computer literate, particularly with Microsoft Word and Excel. Visio experience a plus
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks based on station needs
• Ability to work unsupervised
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds, with occasional work on ladders and/or enclosed spaces
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in good standing
• Be flexible and available to work within an on-call schedule
