Job Description
WCVB Channel 5, the ABC affiliate in Needham, MA, seeks an experienced people- and product-focused leader to join the Engineering team. The Technical Operations Manager will work directly with our talented and award-winning group of broadcast professionals for both on-air production and special projects. This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering.
Job Duties
• Supervise, provide feedback to and complete annual performance reviews for Technical Directors, Audio Operators, Floor Directors, Master Control Operators, and other technicians as assigned.
• Act as hiring manager for Studio and Master Control Operations positions.
• Work with Engineering Department Crew Chiefs to manage scheduling and cross-training, balancing operational needs with cost considerations.
• Plan and execute technical aspects of special projects, both in-studio and remote, including: political debates, severe weather, telethons, America's Hometown Thanksgiving Parade, Boston's Holiday Lights, and The Boston Marathon.
• Serve as liaison to other departments for event planning and coordination.
• Regularly review our on-air product with the team.
• Curate and communicate standard operating procedures.
• Provide input and assist in planning of capital improvement projects.

• This is an in-person position and does not include hybrid or remote work.
• Prior role as a supervisor, manager, or other leadership in a broadcast, cable network or live production facility.
• Military experience will be considered:
• Veterans and reservists with prior military broadcast experience and/or completed training at the Defense Information School are welcome to apply.
• DINFOS staff and instructors with leadership skills would be strongly considered.
