Job Description
WCVB TV, Boston's News Leader and the Hearst Television station serving greater Boston, has an opening for an Engineer in Charge (EIC). This key position supports daily production efforts for in-house and remote operations.
Job Responsibilities Include:
• Maintain operations schedules
• Be available for assistance as needed including off hours.
• Balance scheduling between staffing capability and costs
• Supervise part time and freelance hours.
• Demonstrated proficiency in When to Work, the scheduling tool for staffing is a plus.
• Provide mentoring and support confidential personal interactions as needed.
• Support staff development by creating, overseeing and executing training plans.
• Studio and remote production planning and coordination
• Be a steady and available resource to WCVB News teams.
• Oversee live productions, to include studio debates and telethons; and WCVB's coverage of America's Hometown Thanksgiving Parade, Boston's Holiday Lights, and coverage of the Boston Marathon.
• Support Master Control Operations
• Assure operators are familiar with current operating procedures and that compliance items are communicated and kept up to date.
• Coordinate system upgrades with maintenance and follow-on orientation for operators.
• Support coordination between Programming, Traffic, Sales, Creative and HTV Traffic Hub and WESH.
• Work with Engineering Management on the planning and progress of capital and corporate projects.
• Stay current on technological and operational issues.
• Inspire the operations technicians, leading by example.
Experience:
2+ years of experience working as an operations technician at an affiliated commercial television station or equivalent. Direct and recent experience operating a variety of broadcast equipment. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced news operation.
Education:
Related experience and/or training considered as well as a combination of education and experience.
